Steph Curry encouraged by early results of sports drink collaboration with former First Lady

Steph Curry is no stranger to massive corporate deals, having built a portfolio that includes partnerships with Google, JP Morgan, and the Chinese footwear giant Li-Ning. However, his latest venture carries a different kind of prestige. Earlier this year, Steph and Ayesha Curry teamed up with former First Lady Michelle Obama to launch PLEZi Hydration, a fruit-based energy drink designed to offer a healthier alternative to traditional sports beverages. Speaking recently at Madison Park Primary in East Oakland, Curry expressed his excitement over the initial reception of the product, noting that both Michelle and Barack Obama are incredibly proud of how the brand has launched.

The collaboration is less about a cold business transaction and more about a decade-long friendship between the two families. While the Currys bring significant athletic and entrepreneurial influence to the table, they were quick to point out that this specific project was Michelle Obama’s brainchild. Drawing on her twenty-year commitment to public health and childhood nutrition, Obama envisioned a drink that provided necessary hydration without the heavy load of artificial additives. Ayesha Curry emphasized that while they provide input and ideas, the core vision belongs entirely to the former First Lady.

One of the primary goals for PLEZi is to disrupt a market dominated by giants like Gatorade and Powerade by drastically reducing sugar content. While typical sports drinks often contain upwards of thirty grams of artificial sugar per bottle, PLEZi keeps its count significantly lower through natural ingredients. This health-conscious approach extends into the development process itself; Ayesha revealed that their four children act as unofficial taste testers for every new flavor, ensuring the drink appeals to kids while remaining parent-approved.

Looking ahead, Steph Curry admitted that while he hopes PLEZi eventually challenges the industry leaders, the team is focusing on sustainable growth rather than overnight dominance. He described their current strategy as a patient one, prioritizing quality and authenticity as they scale. As he wrapped up his visit to the local elementary school just before heading into training camp, it was clear that for Curry, this partnership represents a blend of personal passion and professional ambition.
